Where to Learn English?

New to the country and want to learn or improve your English? Check out some of these free programs.

  • ACCES Employment offers a Talk English Café to help improve your conversational skills
  • The Toronto District School Board offers free English as a Second Language classes for citizens born outside of Canada, permanent residents and refugees
  • The Toronto Catholic District School Board offers free English language training classes as well as academic preparation, language upgrading for professionals, and citizenship preparation.
  • The Toronto Public Library offers English learning classes for English as a Second Language speakers
  • Englishlink has free online English courses with videos and worksheets that you can take at any time during the day
  • The YMCA offers no-cost English language instruction to newcomer women.
  • Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto offers free English Language Programs that follow the CIC curriculum

If you’re looking for a more comprehensive and intensive instruction, many local colleges offer communication, academic preparation, and employment-based English classes. Many community organizations and settlement agencies like COSTI and CICS also offer Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) programs.
